Supreme court fines Lil Win GH¢10,000 in Martha Ankomah case

The Supreme Court of Ghana has imposed a GH¢10,000 cost on Kumawood actor Lil Win, citing what it described as disrespectful conduct during ongoing legal proceedings involving actress Martha Ankomah.
The dispute began with a defamation suit filed on 14 February 2024 at the High Court in Accra, in which Ankomah sought GH¢5 million in damages.
The case centres on remarks Lil Win made in a viral video, alleging that Ankomah had criticised the Kumawood film industry to director Frank Fiifi Gharbin, claiming she found its productions substandard and declined to participate in the sector.

Lil Win, a prominent figure in Kumawood, responded with a series of heated statements accusing Ankomah of disrespect.
His remarks were widely criticised as inflammatory and derogatory, escalating tensions between the two stars.
While both parties reportedly reached a settlement agreement in February 2025, the process stalled after Lil Win allegedly failed to comply with its terms and pursued additional legal actions that delayed proceedings.
On 1 April 2025, he failed to appear at a hearing where he was expected to present a formal apology for court approval. The High Court issued a final warning on 15 April, directing him to attend or face sanctions.

The case progressed through appeals and was ultimately heard by the Supreme Court on 31 March 2026. Lil Win and his legal team again failed to appear, prompting the panel to express displeasure at his absence.
The court described his behaviour as “disrespectful” and ordered him to pay GH¢10,000 in costs to Ankomah.
This ruling comes amid ongoing efforts by both parties to explore a possible settlement in the long-running defamation dispute.
