Police announce road closures and traffic diversions ahead of state funeral for crashed helicopter victims

The Ghana Police Service has released details of road closures and traffic diversions in Accra ahead of the interdenominational and interfaith state funeral for the eight individuals who lost their lives in the tragic military helicopter crash at Adansi Akrofuom on Wednesday, August 6.
The ceremony will take place on Friday, August 15, 2025.
In a statement dated Thursday, August 14, the police announced that the following roads within the event vicinity will be closed to vehicular traffic:
- 28th February Road – From CEPS Traffic Light Intersection to Castle Road Junction.
- Osu Cemetery Traffic Light – On Lokko Street.
- Castle Road – From AU to Osu Cemetery Traffic Light.
- Starlet 91 Road – Closed at the Ministries Traffic Light Intersection.
## Traffic Diversions
Motorists are advised to take note of the following alternative routes during the funeral:
Vehicles from La, Labone, and Osu using 28th February Road towards the Accra Central Business District and the Ministries will be diverted onto Salem Avenue Road at the Castle Traffic Light, connecting to Oxford Street.
Traffic from Lokko Street, Osu, heading towards Castle Road should use Ajumaku Street and Oxford Street in Osu.
Vehicles from John Evans Atta Mills High Street towards Black Star Square will be diverted onto Liberia Road at the CEPS Traffic Intersection, leading to the National Theatre Traffic Light Intersection.
Traffic from AU Circle heading to Castle Road via the Osu Cemetery Traffic Light will be diverted onto Abdul Diouf and King Hassan Roads, linking to Abdul Nasser Road in front of the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ).
## Police Statement
The police have urged all motorists and commuters to plan their journeys in advance, comply with the diversions, and cooperate with traffic management personnel to ensure smooth movement during the funeral proceedings.
The Service further appealed to the public for patience and cooperation as the nation comes together to honour the memory of the fallen heroes.
