Cargo plane crashes after take-off from Louisville airport in US

A cargo plane crashed near Muhammad Ali International Airport in Louisville, Kentucky, on Tuesday evening, resulting in multiple injuries and sending a large plume of black smoke into the sky.

The Louisville Metropolitan Police Department confirmed the incident on X, describing the crash site near Fern Valley and Grade Lane as an “active scene with fire and debris.” Emergency responders from multiple agencies are currently on-site.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported that the UPS aircraft went down around 5:15 p.m. local time shortly after taking off from the airport, a major hub for the logistics company. Authorities have temporarily closed the airfield as rescue operations and initial investigations continue.

The FAA, alongside the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), will lead a full investigation to determine the cause of the crash.

Officials have issued a shelter-in-place order for residents within a 5-mile radius of the airport and urged the public to avoid the area for safety reasons. Emergency crews continue to manage the situation as the investigation unfolds.
