The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced a series of emergency maintenance works following multiple faults that have disrupted electricity supply in parts of the Greater Accra, Central and Ashanti regions.

According to the power distributor, the outages are the result of technical challenges within its electricity distribution network, prompting urgent maintenance activities aimed at restoring stable and reliable power supply to affected communities.

In a public notice shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, ECG said the maintenance exercise will begin on Monday, July 13, 2026, and continue until Friday, July 17, 2026. The scheduled works will generally take place between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., although the duration may vary depending on the location and the nature of the repairs.

ECG stated that detailed schedules identifying the affected communities have been published to help customers prepare for the planned interruptions.

The company explained that the temporary power cuts are necessary to allow engineers to carry out critical repairs, replace faulty equipment and strengthen the distribution network to improve service reliability.

The exercise forms part of a broader programme of planned and emergency maintenance initiatives undertaken by ECG in recent weeks to address technical faults and enhance the stability of electricity supply across the country.

Ghana's electricity sector continues to experience rising demand from households, businesses and industries, placing increasing pressure on transmission and distribution infrastructure. As a result, continuous investments in network maintenance, transformer upgrades and system improvements have become essential to reducing unplanned outages and ensuring a more dependable power supply.

The planned maintenance is expected to affect businesses, offices and residents that rely heavily on electricity during normal working hours, as power interruptions are scheduled to occur throughout most of the daytime period.

ECG has apologised for the inconvenience and appealed to customers in the affected areas to bear with the company while engineers complete the essential maintenance works aimed at improving the reliability of electricity supply.
