GES announces 2026 BECE SHS selection dates as school choice begins July 20

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced that the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates will select their preferred senior high schools and technical institutions from Monday, July 20, to Friday, August 7, 2026, ahead of the annual Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS).
The school selection exercise forms a critical stage of the 2026 CSSPS, which will place qualified candidates into senior high schools and technical and vocational institutions across Ghana for the upcoming academic year.

To ensure a smooth and transparent process, the GES has launched a nationwide training and sensitisation programme for regional directors of education as well as metropolitan, municipal and district directors of education.
The training, scheduled to run from Wednesday, July 15, to Tuesday, July 28, 2026, is intended to equip education directors with comprehensive knowledge of the 2026 school selection guidelines, placement procedures and their supervisory responsibilities.
In a statement, the GES said the initiative is aimed at strengthening the capacity of education authorities to provide accurate guidance and effective oversight throughout the school selection period.
The Service has therefore directed all regional and metropolitan, municipal and district directors of education to fully participate in the training and subsequently disseminate the relevant information to schools, candidates, parents and other stakeholders within their respective jurisdictions.
According to the GES, these preparatory measures are designed to ensure a transparent, efficient and well-coordinated school selection and placement process for all 2026 BECE candidates as they prepare for admission into senior high schools and technical institutions.
