GES announces September 18 as reopening date for 2026 SHS freshers

The Ghana Education Service has announced that all first-year senior high school and technical school students will report to school on September 18, 2026, while assuring the public that every qualified candidate who sat for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) will secure placement into a second-cycle institution.
In a statement issued by management, the Ghana Education Service congratulated all junior high school graduates for successfully completing the BECE and confirmed that comprehensive preparations have been made to receive fresh students across the country.
GES Dismisses Reports of Possible Placement Crisis
The Service rejected reports circulating in sections of the media suggesting that about 72,000 students could miss placement into senior high schools and technical schools.

According to GES, the claims are speculative and do not reflect the actual situation regarding student placement.
Management therefore urged the public to disregard the reports, insisting that all qualified candidates will be placed in schools nationwide.
Adequate Infrastructure Available for Students
GES further assured parents and stakeholders that there are enough infrastructure and facilities available to accommodate all successful candidates.
The Service explained that ongoing efforts to phase out the double-track system will not affect access to secondary education.

Management also called on parents, guardians, and education stakeholders to support the collective effort to strengthen Ghana’s education system and ensure smooth placement for all students.
