The Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued a firm warning to candidates ahead of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), stressing that there will be zero tolerance for examination malpractice, commonly known as "apor".

Speaking at a media briefing on Thursday, April 30, the Director-General of GES, Ernest Kofi Davis, urged candidates to rely solely on their preparation.

He revealed that the Service has put in place strict monitoring systems and enhanced supervision across all examination centres nationwide to prevent any form of cheating.

Candidates were also assured that all questions will be based strictly on the approved syllabus, eliminating the need for external assistance.

Over 620,000 Candidates to Sit BECE 2026

The 2026 BECE is expected to record 620,141 candidates from 20,395 schools across the country.

Ban on Compromised Officials

Restoring Integrity in the Exam System

GES says the measures are part of broader efforts to

  • Ensure fairness for all candidates

  • Restore public confidence in the examination system

Candidates have been advised to remain calm, focused, and confident as they prepare for the exams.
