Gov't declares July 3 as public holiday

The Ministry for the Interior has announced that Friday, July 3, 2026, will be observed as a statutory public holiday in commemoration of Republic Day.
In a statement issued to the public, the Ministry explained that although Republic Day falls on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, President John Dramani Mahama has, through an Executive Instrument (E.I.), designated Friday, July 3, 2026, as the official day for nationwide observance.

According to the Ministry, the decision was made in accordance with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act, 2001 (Act 601), as amended.
The statement further urged the general public to take note of the change and observe Friday, July 3, 2026, as a public holiday across the country.

The declaration forms part of the government's efforts to ensure the proper observance of national commemorative days and provide citizens with the opportunity to mark the occasion.
