'I’m not asking you to stay or leave, but I’ll be back' – Bernard Elbernard speaks after failed NPP prophecy

Prophet Bernard Elbernard Nelson-Eshun has assured his congregation of his unwavering commitment to ministry, despite his decision to temporarily step away from preaching following the failure of his prophecy regarding the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primaries.
Addressing worshippers during a church service, the prophet explained that he felt compelled to speak candidly on the matter before the close of the service.
He anchored his remarks in his book, School of Prophecy, particularly Chapter 16, “When a Prophet Misses It”, which he said provides guidance on how prophets should respond when a prophetic declaration does not come to pass.
According to Prophet Nelson-Eshun, although the book was written several years ago, it was published last year and clearly outlines the principles of accountability and responsibility in such moments.
He emphasised that he does not seek emotional encouragement from church members but rather expects integrity, transparency, and accountability—from both himself and the congregation.
“I am not the kind of pastor who needs encouragement. I need you, as members of this family, to hold me to integrity and to what I said the Lord showed me,” he told the congregation.
He revealed that he has fully subjected himself to the accountability process prescribed in his book and has already issued two formal statements in response to the failed prophecy.
The first, he said, was a brief public apology, while the second addressed accountability in greater detail. He stressed that these statements clearly expressed his position and urged members to reflect carefully on their content.
While acknowledging that he has no control over how individuals interpret or react to his actions, Prophet Nelson-Eshun reassured the congregation that he remains present and has not abandoned his calling or the church.
He clarified that he was neither appealing to congregants to stay nor suggesting that anyone should leave. “I am not going to ask you to stay, nor am I asking you to leave,” he said, adding that his approach was rooted in humility and responsibility. “But I will be back.”

As part of his accountability measures, the prophet announced that he would temporarily suspend preaching.
Although he will continue attending church services, he stated that he would refrain from ministering from the pulpit for several weeks, in line with what he has consistently taught about taking responsibility when mistakes occur.
In closing, Prophet Nelson-Eshun reminded congregants of two principles he described as fundamental, regardless of circumstances: maintaining faith in God and Jesus Christ, and preserving one’s personal integrity and sense of identity.
“Never lose God, and never lose yourself,” he cautioned, noting that losing one’s identity could be more damaging than public criticism or disappointment.
He concluded by thanking the congregation for their attention and reaffirmed his intention to return to active preaching at the appropriate time.
