Kwadwo Safo, 2 others arrested over Adwoa Safo shooting

The Ghana Police Service has arrested Israel Kwadwo Safo, popularly known as Akofena, in connection with the shooting incident involving former Dome-Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo.
According to a statement issued by the police, Akofena voluntarily reported to the regional police headquarters on Monday, June 22, 2026. He was subsequently transferred to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters to assist with investigations into the shooting incident that occurred on June 21, 2026.

Police Recover Weapons and Ammunition
The police revealed that a search conducted at the suspect’s residence in Kwabenya and his vehicle led to the discovery of a significant cache of firearms and ammunition.
Items recovered included 120 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 50 rounds of .45 calibre ammunition, 25 rounds of .40 calibre ammunition, several loaded magazines, and two Glock pistols, one of which is legally registered in the suspect’s name.
Two More Suspects Arrested
As part of the ongoing investigation, police also arrested two additional suspects identified as Nana Kwaku Afriyie and Kwadwo Safo Koomson.

The three suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting investigators as authorities work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the high-profile shooting case.
Suspects to Appear in Court
Police said all three suspects are expected to be arraigned before court on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, while investigations continue.
The shooting incident involving Adwoa Safo has generated widespread public interest and prompted a series of police operations. Law enforcement authorities have reiterated their commitment to pursuing all leads and ensuring that anyone found culpable is brought before the law.
