Man arrested for reportedly writing BECE for his girlfriend
A dramatic incident during the ongoing Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) has gone viral after a young unemployed man, identified as George, was arrested for allegedly impersonating his girlfriend, Georgina, to write her examination papers.
According to reports by Crime Check Foundation and Metro TV, George is said to have entered the examination hall and attempted to sit for the exams on behalf of his girlfriend.
Exam Malpractice Scheme Uncovered
The alleged scheme was uncovered after examination invigilators noticed suspicious irregularities during the session. He was immediately identified and arrested on the spot, preventing the impersonation from continuing.

A video of the incident has since gone viral on social media, sparking widespread debate over rising cases of examination malpractice in Ghana.
Growing Concern Over Exam Fraud
The incident comes amid increasing concerns about exam-related misconduct across the country.
The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has already warned about the growing trend of malpractice in national examinations.

He disclosed that 178 candidates were affected in the 2026 BECE cycle, with some papers withheld and others cancelled due to irregularities.
“We are particularly concerned about the growing phenomenon of exam malpractice. Last year, it affected about 178 candidates, and several papers were withheld. In some instances, the papers were cancelled,” he stated.
Authorities Intensify Monitoring
The latest arrest has further intensified calls for stricter monitoring and enforcement of exam rules to protect the integrity of Ghana’s education system.
