A 27-year-old man has been sentenced to four years in prison after stealing musical instruments from a church in Hohoe in the Volta Region, the Volta North Regional Police Command has announced.

Mohammed Rafiu was convicted at the Hohoe Circuit Court on Monday, June 8, 2026, after pleading guilty to two counts of unlawful entry and stealing.

How He Was Caught

The incident dates to June 5, when Rafiu was spotted near the Faith International Ministry Church carrying a sack filled with items while attempting to board a vehicle. Witnesses grew suspicious and moved in to inspect the contents of the bag.

Inside the sack, they found several items belonging to the church — including an amplifier, an equaliser, a mixer, and a crossover machine. Rafiu was promptly arrested and handed over to the Hohoe Police District, where he admitted to the offences during investigations.

The Sentence

Rafiu appeared before the Hohoe Circuit Court three days after his arrest. He pleaded guilty to both charges and was convicted on the same day.

The court handed down three years for unlawful entry and four years for stealing. Both sentences are to run concurrently, meaning Rafiu will serve a maximum of four years behind bars.

The Volta North Regional Police Command confirmed the conviction in a press release issued on June 9, 2026.
