Kofi Owusu, the family head of the late highlife icon Charles Kwadwo Fosu, widely known as Daddy Lumba, has been fined two sheep by the Manhyia Palace after a dramatic invocation of the Great Oath (Ntam Kɛseɛ) by the musician’s sister, Ernestina Akosua Bimpomaa.

The incident took place on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, during ongoing legal proceedings involving Akosua Serwaa, the first wife of the late Daddy Lumba, who is contesting who should be officially recognised as his legitimate spouse.

Following the court session, Daddy Lumba’s sister invoked the Great Oath of the Asantehene, a sacred traditional appeal that automatically transfers the case from the court to the Manhyia Palace for settlement, in accordance with Asante customary law.

During the traditional hearing presided over by the Saamanhene and other revered chiefs, Abusuapanin Kofi Owusu was fined for failing to challenge or neutralise the oath when it was invoked. The fine of two sheep will be used to perform purification rituals to nullify the oath and prevent any potential spiritual consequences.

Under Asante tradition, matters involving the Great Oath cannot be resolved in secular courts, as only the Manhyia Palace holds the authority to adjudicate such cases.

Further hearings on the case are expected to continue on November 12, 2025.
