Interior Minister Muntaka Mubarak has dismissed claims that former Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) Chief Executive Officer Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu is being held in a private facility or receiving special treatment while serving her prison sentence.

Speaking in an interview with Joy News on Wednesday, June 24, the minister clarified that the convicted former MASLOC CEO remains in the custody of the Ghana Prisons Service and is serving her sentence in accordance with the law.

“From the day she came, she has been with us, and she’s with us, and she’s serving her term,” Mr Muntaka stated.

His comments come amid growing calls from some opposition lawmakers seeking greater transparency regarding the exact location where Tamakloe-Attionu is being held following her conviction in the MASLOC fraud case.

However, the interior minister maintained that the government is under no obligation to publicly disclose the specific detention location of high-profile inmates, citing security and safety concerns.

“Maybe in Ghana, we take telling people where somebody is serving lightly, because in America and other countries, revealing the location of a high-profile person can even endanger that individual’s life. It is a matter of safety,” he explained.

Mr Muntaka reiterated that there should be no doubt about Tamakloe-Attionu’s status, stressing that she is serving her sentence under the supervision of the Ghana Prisons Service.

“Trust us, she’s serving her term. She’s not in any private residence. She is with us,” he said.

He further noted that anyone seeking confirmation of her whereabouts or wishing to arrange a visit can do so through the established procedures of the Ghana Prisons Service.

“Was she not sentenced? She was. If she has been sentenced, then she must be in prison custody,” the minister added.

The clarification comes as public interest continues to grow around the incarceration of the former MASLOC boss following her conviction in the high-profile case.
