The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced plans to stage a protest march to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) on Monday, July 13, to demand an explanation over the arrest of party member Dennis Miracles Aboagye.

According to the opposition party, the demonstration is aimed at seeking clarity on the circumstances surrounding Aboagye's arrest, which it says raises concerns about due process and the treatment of opposition figures by state institutions.

The planned protest follows claims that Aboagye was arrested at the Kotoka International Airport by EOCO officials with the assistance of the Ghana Immigration Service, despite allegedly receiving no prior invitation or notification regarding any ongoing investigation.

The NPP maintains that while it supports accountability and lawful investigations, law enforcement agencies must operate within the confines of the law and respect the constitutional rights of all citizens, irrespective of their political affiliation.

Speaking on Channel One TV on Sunday, July 12, the party's national organiser, Henry Nana Boakye, insisted that Aboagye had neither been invited by EOCO nor been informed of any alleged offence before his arrest.

"Miracles has not received any invitation from EOCO. He has not been informed of any wrongdoing. He has not been told that he is under any form of investigation," Nana Boakye stated.

He further stressed that the NPP would cooperate fully with any legitimate investigation involving its members but cautioned against the use of state security institutions to intimidate or harass political opponents.

An official response from EOCO regarding the circumstances of Aboagye's arrest is yet to be issued.
