The Chairman of the Parliamentary Caucus on Disability, Hon. Dr Clement Abas Apaak, has called for urgent enforcement of disability rights and the removal of barriers preventing persons with disabilities from fully participating in national development.

Speaking in Parliament to commemorate the National Day of Persons with Disabilities, Dr Apaak said this year's theme, "From Act to Action: Finalising Reforms and Enforcing Disability Rights Now", should inspire concrete action rather than mere policy commitments.

He noted that although Ghana has made progress through the Persons with Disabilities Act, 2006 (Act 715), and the ratification of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, many persons with disabilities still face challenges in accessing education, healthcare, employment, transportation and other essential services.

Dr Apaak welcomed ongoing efforts to review Ghana's disability laws, stressing that effective implementation, stronger institutions and adequate resources are needed to guarantee equal rights and opportunities for persons with disabilities.

He also urged government institutions, the private sector, civil society organisations and development partners to work together to improve accessibility, promote inclusive employment and ensure persons with disabilities are actively involved in decisions affecting their lives.

He reaffirmed Parliament's commitment to advancing disability inclusion and called for a Ghana where no one is left behind because of disability.
