The Bono Regional Police Command has opened investigations into the killing of a 16-year-old boy, identified as Issahaku Ansu, at an illegal mining site in Amasu, a farming community in the Dormaa East District.
According to a statement signed by the Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, the incident occurred on Sunday, August 31, 2025, when the teenager was shot by an unidentified assailant while engaged in galamsey activities.
âPreliminary investigations suggest that the victim was shot from a nearby bush, forcing other miners at the site to flee,â the police statement indicated.
When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered the lifeless body of the boy with multiple gunshot wounds to the back and blood oozing from his nostrils. He was reportedly wearing a wine-coloured pair of boxer shorts soaked in blood, which has been secured as evidence.
The body has since been deposited at the Dormaa Ahenkro Presbyterian Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
The police have assured the publicâespecially residents of Amasu and its surrounding communitiesâthat every effort is being made to track down and arrest the perpetrators of what they described as a âheinous crimeâ.
