Renowned Ghanaian cleric and prophetic voice, Prophet Bernard Elbernard Nelson-Eshun, has publicly admitted that his widely circulated prophecy concerning the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries did not come to pass, offering an unreserved apology and announcing a temporary withdrawal from public prophetic declarations and pulpit ministry.

In a detailed public statement, Prophet Nelson-Eshun acknowledged that he had incorrectly declared that Hon. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong would win the NPP presidential primaries and emerge as the party’s flagbearer. According to the prophet, this declaration was not casual or informal but was communicated through a published book, multiple videos, and several media interviews, all delivered with prophetic authority.

“That word did not come to pass. I missed it. I was wrong,” he stated, adding that he takes full responsibility for the failed prophecy and does not seek to blame external factors or individuals.

Background to the Prophetic Declaration

Prophet Nelson-Eshun has, over the years, built a strong following in Ghana and beyond, particularly for prophetic insights touching on national leadership, governance, and political transitions. Ahead of the NPP’s presidential primaries, he released prophetic interpretations which he said were received through prayer and spiritual discernment.

To reinforce the seriousness of the revelation, the prophet went a step further by authoring a book that outlined the prophecy in detail. The publication sought to provide scriptural justification, prophetic symbolism, and spiritual reasoning behind his assertion that Hon. Kennedy Agyapong would lead the party into the next general election.

The book, alongside sustained media appearances and online broadcasts, significantly amplified the message, leading many followers to place spiritual, emotional, and even political confidence in the declaration.

Admission of Error and Public Apology

Following the conclusion of the NPP primaries, which produced a different outcome, Prophet Nelson-Eshun said he was compelled by conscience and accountability to address the matter publicly.

He admitted that many people were emotionally, spiritually, and politically affected by his declaration and expressed deep remorse, particularly to those who made decisions based on his prophetic word.

“I spoke publicly with prophetic authority, and many trusted my word. I acknowledge this with humility,” he said, while asking for forgiveness from believers in Ghana and across the world.

He further apologised to Christians who may now feel confused or doubtful about divine communication, stressing that his mistake should not be interpreted as a limitation on God’s ability to speak but rather as a human failure in interpretation and communication.

Accountability Measures and Temporary Withdrawal

In a subsequent Accountability Statement, Prophet Nelson-Eshun announced concrete steps aimed at restoring trust and reinforcing prophetic discipline.

He disclosed that he has intentionally paused from making public prophetic declarations, especially on national and political matters. Additionally, he has voluntarily stepped back for a season from public teaching, preaching, and pulpit ministry.

According to him, the decision is not an abandonment of his calling but a period dedicated to reflection, prayer, counsel, and strengthening accountability structures in how prophetic revelations are received and shared.

“I remain committed to personal prayer, study, and quiet pastoral responsibility, while realigning myself in growth, integrity, and discernment,” he noted.

Public Reaction and Significance

Prophet Nelson-Eshun’s admission has drawn significant public attention, with many observers describing the move as rare and notable within Ghana’s charismatic Christian space, where failed prophecies are often left unaddressed.

Religious analysts say the episode has reignited national conversations about prophetic accountability, the intersection of religion and politics, and ethical responsibility in spiritual leadership.

As he temporarily withdraws from public ministry, the prophet expressed gratitude to those who have corrected him “in love” and to supporters who continue to pray for him, emphasising that trust is sacred and must never be taken lightly.
