A woman and two children have been confirmed dead after they were swept away by floodwaters in Dome following Monday's torrential rains that caused widespread flooding across parts of the Greater Accra Region.

The bodies of the three victims were recovered after floodwaters overwhelmed sections of the community, further increasing the death toll from the devastating floods that have affected several areas of Accra.

Authorities have not yet released the identities of the deceased as investigations and family notifications continue.

The tragedy comes amid severe flooding in several parts of the capital, including Alajo, Kaneshie, Adabraka, Weija, and sections of the Mallam–Kasoa Highway. Hours of heavy rainfall left roads submerged, stranded motorists, disrupted transportation, and caused significant damage to homes, vehicles, and other properties.

Emergency officials have urged residents in flood-prone communities to remain vigilant and relocate to safer areas whenever water levels begin to rise. They have also advised the public to avoid walking, swimming, or driving through floodwaters, which can be extremely dangerous.

Meanwhile, the presidency has called on citizens to adhere to official safety directives and remain alert as emergency response teams continue to monitor affected areas. Members of the public requiring urgent assistance have been encouraged to contact the national emergency hotline, 112.

The latest fatalities have once again highlighted the persistent threat of flooding in Accra and renewed calls for long-term measures to address the city's recurring drainage and flood management challenges.
