Aston Villa win Europa League for the first time 44 years
Aston Villa ended a 44-year wait for European glory with a dominant 3-0 victory over SC Freiburg in the UEFA Europa League final at Besiktas Park, denying the German side their first major trophy in club history.
Wearing an all-white kit in tribute to their 1982 European Cup-winning team, Villa made a strong start and nearly opened the scoring within two minutes when Morgan Rogers forced an early save from Noah Atubolu with a powerful effort.
Freiburg responded with a rare attacking moment through Nicolas Höfler, whose effort went narrowly wide as they struggled to settle in their first-ever European final.
Villa took full control before halftime, scoring twice in a seven-minute spell. The opener came from a well-rehearsed corner routine, with Youri Tielemans finishing clinically after intelligent movement created space inside the box.
Moments later, Emiliano Buendía produced a moment of brilliance, turning sharply on the edge of the area before curling a precise strike into the far corner to double Villa’s lead and ignite celebrations among their supporters.

Any hopes of a Freiburg comeback were effectively ended just before the hour mark when Morgan Rogers added a third, finishing from close range after a sharp assist from Buendía.
Despite late changes from Freiburg, Villa remained in control and continued to threaten further goals through Buendía and John McGinn, but the scoreline stayed at 3-0.
The victory sealed Aston Villa’s long-awaited European triumph and marked a defining moment in Unai Emery’s tenure, as the club celebrated a historic night of success on the continental stage.
