Baba Rahman set for Black Stars return for 2026 World Cup

Baba Rahman is in line for a return to the Ghana national football team after being contacted by new head coach Carlos Queiroz as preparations intensify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to Ghanasoccernet, sources indicate that Queiroz has reached out to the experienced left-back as part of efforts to strengthen his squad, with the coach seeking a quick decision amid limited preparation time.
Rahman has been absent from the national team since September 2023, when he featured in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the Central African Republic at the Baba Yara Stadium. Following that appearance, he stepped away from international duty to focus on recovery and rebuilding his fitness at club level with PAOK FC.
The defender also opted out of Ghana’s squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations to prioritise his fitness after a series of injury setbacks, a decision that followed criticism after his last outing.
Now 31, Rahman brings significant experience, having earned 52 caps for Ghana between 2014 and 2023, scoring two goals. He was also part of Ghana’s squad at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, marking his most recent appearance at a major international competition.
Ghana, preparing for their fifth World Cup appearance, have been drawn in Group L alongside the England national football team, the Croatia national football team and the Panama national football team.
As preparations gather pace, Queiroz is focused on assembling a competitive squad, and Rahman could make a return if he agrees to rejoin and fight for a place in the team.
