Bayern beat Real Madrid in UCL quarter-final first leg

Bayern Munich will take a slender advantage back to Germany after securing a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Real Madrid in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final showdown.
Vincent Kompany’s side delivered a composed and clinical performance, particularly in the first half, where they asserted control and created the better chances.
Their pressure paid off in the 41st minute when Leroy Sané, often a key creative force, was involved in the buildup before Serge Gnabry capitalised on a lapse in concentration from Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Gnabry’s sharp awareness set up Brahim Díaz, who finished calmly to hand Bayern a deserved 1-0 lead heading into the break.

Despite the advantage, Bayern could have been further ahead before halftime. Dayot Upamecano and Gnabry both squandered promising opportunities, while at the other end, Kylian Mbappé tested Manuel Neuer with two well-struck efforts that required sharp saves.
The second half began in explosive fashion. Just 20 seconds after the restart, Harry Kane doubled Bayern’s lead with a superb curling effort following brilliant work from Michael Olise.
At 2-0, the German giants appeared firmly in control and on course for a commanding first-leg result.
However, Real Madrid, renowned for their resilience in Europe, responded with renewed urgency. Their breakthrough came with 16 minutes remaining when Alexander-Arnold atoned for his earlier lapse with a dangerous delivery into the box.

Mbappé reacted quickest, bundling the ball past Neuer to reduce the deficit and breathe life back into the tie.
Statistically, Bayern’s victory was well justified. They registered an impressive 2.99 expected goals (xG), comfortably outperforming Madrid’s 1.97, underlining their attacking dominance across the match.
At halftime, the numbers were even more telling, with Bayern posting 1.9 xG compared to Madrid’s 0.58.
While Kompany will feel his side deserved more from their dominance, the late goal ensures the tie remains finely balanced.
With the second leg set for Germany in eight days, this quarter-final is still very much open and promises another high-stakes encounter between two European heavyweights.
