FIFA and TikTok sign landmark preferred platform deal to boost FIFA World Cup 2026 coverage

FIFA and TikTok have entered into a groundbreaking partnership that will transform digital access and fan engagement ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026.

Under the agreement, TikTok becomes FIFA’s first-ever Preferred Platform, marking a new phase in football content distribution across social media.

The deal strengthens FIFA’s strategy to collaborate with leading third-party platforms and will expand the availability of exclusive, original, and interactive content for global audiences.

Central to the initiative is TikTok’s FIFA World Cup 2026 hub, offering fans behind-the-scenes access, creator-led storytelling, tournament information, and interactive engagement tools.

Extending through 2026, the agreement unlocks major opportunities for official FIFA World Cup Media Partners on TikTok, including limited live-streaming of match moments, access to specially curated clips and licensed content, and monetization through TikTok’s premium advertising suite.

TikTok will also deploy anti-piracy measures to safeguard FIFA-owned media.

“This is an innovative and creative collaboration that will connect more fans across the globe to the FIFA World Cup in unprecedented ways.”

Said FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafström.

“FIFA’s goal is to share the exhilaration of the tournament with as many people as possible, and TikTok’s role as Preferred Platform will help bring supporters even closer to the action.”

A key feature of the collaboration is the launch of a global creator program. Select TikTok creators will gain access to unique backstage moments, including training sessions, press conferences, and other restricted areas, offering fans intimate insights beyond the 90 minutes.

A wider creator network will also have the opportunity to co-create content using authorized FIFA archival footage.

James Stafford, TikTok’s Global Head of Content, highlighted the platform’s growing influence in football engagement.

“Football has experienced explosive growth on TikTok, and we’re excited for fans to experience the FIFA World Cup 2026 beyond the action on the pitch,”

He said.

“TikTok GamePlan is driving meaningful engagement, with fans 42% more likely to tune into live matches after watching sports content on the platform. We’re reaching new generations of supporters, particularly younger and female audiences.”

Following on from the success of TikTok’s partnership with the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023, which generated tens of billions of views, this agreement cements TikTok as a central platform for fan participation at the most expansive World Cup in history.
