Flop ex-Man United keeper Andre Onana dropped from Cameroon squad for AFCON

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has suffered a significant setback in his career, having been left out of Cameroon’s squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The 29-year-old joined Turkish side Trabzonspor during the summer after falling out of favour under Portuguese manager Ruben Amorim, but despite showing signs of improvement, he has been unable to secure a recall to the national team.
Onana, who has earned 53 caps for Cameroon, played every minute during the nation’s World Cup qualifying campaign, which ended in disappointment.

His exclusion from the AFCON squad comes as a shock to fans, particularly given his recent displays for Trabzonspor, where he has made 11 appearances across all competitions this season.
Reports suggest that his performances have been strong enough to prompt the Turkish club to consider making his stay permanent.
Cameroon’s AFCON campaign begins on December 21, with the Indomitable Lions drawn in a group alongside Gabon, Ivory Coast, and Mozambique. Onana’s absence leaves a notable gap in Cameroon’s goalkeeping department, and the team will now rely on alternative options between the posts.

Adding to the drama, Cameroon faced further upheaval just days before the tournament as manager Marc Brys was reportedly sacked, raising questions about the squad’s stability and readiness.
Onana’s omission, combined with the managerial change, sets a tense backdrop for Cameroon as they prepare to compete on the continental stage.
