Arsenal qualify for UCL final for the first time in 20 years

Two decades after their first appearance, Arsenal are through to only their second UEFA Champions League final, having overcome Atletico Madrid over two hard-fought legs.
Mikel Arteta’s side remain unbeaten in this season’s competition, sealing a 2-1 aggregate victory after a tense 1-0 win at the Emirates Stadium.
Captain Bukayo Saka proved decisive, scoring the only goal of the night. He reacted quickest to slot home from close range just before half-time after Jan Oblak had denied Leandro Trossard’s powerful strike, giving Arsenal the breakthrough they deserved in a tight encounter.

Atletico Madrid responded after the break with more intent, but Diego Simeone’s men struggled to truly test David Raya, who remained largely untroubled throughout the contest.
The Spanish side ended the match with an expected goals (xG) of just 0.53, compared to Arsenal’s 1.58.
Viktor Gyökeres also had a major chance to kill the tie midway through the second half but failed to convert a gilt-edged opportunity, though it mattered little in the end as the home crowd celebrated a historic night.

Arsenal now turn their attention to a potential Champions League final clash against either Bayern Munich or Paris Saint-Germain, while also continuing their pursuit of the Premier League title, starting with an away trip to West Ham next weekend.
For Atletico, another European dream ends in disappointment as they fall short once again, despite showing greater resistance in the second half.
Simeone’s side will now focus on securing Champions League qualification for next season when they host Celta Vigo on Saturday.
