FC Barcelona teenage sensation Lamine Yamal will miss the remainder of the season due to a hamstring injury, the club confirmed on Thursday. However, there is optimism that the young star will recover in time to feature for Spain national football team at the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026.

The 18-year-old winger, who netted the decisive goal in Barcelona’s 1-0 victory over Celta Vigo on Wednesday, was forced off just before halftime after appearing to injure his left leg. He was subsequently replaced by Swedish youngster Roony Bardghji.

In an official club statement shared via social media, Barcelona confirmed the nature of the injury:
"The tests carried out have confirmed that first-team player Lamine Yamal has a hamstring injury in his left leg (biceps femoris muscle).

"The player will follow a conservative treatment plan. Lamine Yamal will miss the remainder of the season, and he is expected to be available for the World Cup."

With Barcelona holding a comfortable nine-point lead at the top of La Liga—their only remaining competition this season—the club is prioritising long-term fitness over a rushed return, especially in a World Cup year.

Yamal has been one of the standout performers this campaign, registering 16 goals and 11 assists in La Liga, along with six goals in the UEFA Champions League. Despite a demanding schedule that has seen him feature in 51 matches for club and country, injury issues have been minimal, limited to two brief groin setbacks earlier in the season.

The Spanish international is now set to miss Barcelona’s final six matches of the campaign, including the highly anticipated El Clasico clash against Real Madrid on May 10—a fixture that could potentially seal the league title for the Catalan giants at Camp Nou.
