Leicester City have been relegated to League One, completing a dramatic fall from grace exactly 10 years after their unforgettable English Premier League title-winning season.

The Foxes confirmed their drop to England’s third tier after a 2-2 draw against Hull City on Tuesday night, a result that ended their slim hopes of survival. Leicester needed all three points at the King Power Stadium but failed to secure the victory required to remain in the Championship.

Hull took the lead in the 18th minute when Liam Millar capitalised on a costly mistake by goalkeeper Asmir Begović, calmly curling the ball into the net after a poor clearance.

Leicester fought back after the break as Jordan James converted from the penalty spot after Abdul Fatawu Issahaku was brought down by Lewis Koumas. Minutes later, Luke Thomas gave the home side hope with a superb volley that put Leicester ahead.

But their advantage did not last long. Oli McBurnie scored in the 63rd minute to earn Hull a crucial point and condemn Leicester to another painful relegation.

Leicester’s decline has been one of English football’s most shocking stories. In 2016, the club stunned the world by winning the Premier League against all odds. In 2021, they lifted the FA Cup, and in 2022, they were still competing in Europe.

However, relegation from the Premier League in the 2022/23 campaign triggered the departure of several star players, including James Maddison, Harvey Barnes, Çağlar Söyüncü and Youri Tielemans.

From Premier League champions to League One, Leicester City’s collapse will be remembered as one of the most dramatic declines in modern football history.
