Mbappe brace fires Real Madrid to crucial La Liga win over Athletic Club

Kylian Mbappe delivered a masterclass on Wednesday night, scoring twice as Real Madrid snapped their three-match winless run in LaLiga with a dominant 3–0 victory over Athletic Club at San Mamés.
The result moves Xabi Alonso’s side back to within a point of leaders Barcelona after a frustrating sequence of draws had stalled their title charge.
Mbappé, who had already forced a strong save from Unai Simón, opened the scoring in the seventh minute with a moment of sheer brilliance, controlling Trent Alexander-Arnold’s sweeping diagonal pass before curling an unstoppable finish beyond the Spanish goalkeeper.

Thibaut Courtois kept Madrid ahead with a sharp stop to deny Álex Berenguer, while Vinícius Júnior rattled the post at the other end.
Madrid doubled their lead just before half-time when Eduardo Camavinga headed into an empty net after Mbappé nodded down a well-constructed team move.
Athletic pushed for a response after the interval, with Mikel Jauregizar forcing Courtois into another acrobatic save from distance.

But Mbappé killed off any hope of a comeback shortly before the hour mark, catching Simón off guard with a superb low strike from 25 yards that nestled into the bottom-right corner.
Federico Valverde was denied by Simón late on, but the contest had long been settled as Madrid cruised to a much-needed victory.
