Valverde set the tone early with a thunderous strike in the second minute before turning provider shortly after the break, delivering a brilliant pass for Rodrygo to double Real Madrid’s advantage.

Atlético responded through Alexander Sørloth, who headed home in the 58th minute to keep Diego Simeone’s side in contention.

The Rojiblancos pushed hard for an equaliser but were denied by a fine save from Thibaut Courtois to keep out Antoine Griezmann, who later curled narrowly wide.

Julian Álvarez missed a late opportunity in stoppage time as Real Madrid held on to secure victory, setting up yet another Supercopa final showdown against Barcelona.

The upcoming clash will mark the fourth consecutive Supercopa final contested between the two giants of Spanish football.
