Samartex FC reignited their top-four ambitions with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Asante Kotoko as their Ghana Premier League clash resumed at the Baba Yara Stadium.

The match had initially been halted due to heavy rainfall with the scoreline at 0-0, but upon resumption, Samartex returned sharper and more purposeful, taking control of the contest.

The breakthrough arrived in the 54th minute when Christian Agyenim Boateng calmly finished off a well-crafted move to give the visitors a deserved lead.

Kotoko’s hopes of a comeback suffered a major setback when Samed Kyei was sent off after receiving a second yellow card, leaving the hosts to battle with ten men.

Samartex took full advantage of their numerical superiority and doubled their lead in the 80th minute through Emmanuel Essien, effectively putting the game beyond Kotoko’s reach.

The Porcupine Warriors managed a late response, with Albert Amoah pulling one back, but it proved to be only a consolation as Samartex held firm to secure all three points.

The result carries significant implications in the league standings. Kotoko remain fourth with 43 points after 28 matches, missing a crucial opportunity to close the gap on leaders Bibiani Gold Stars, while Medeama SC and Hearts of Oak occupy second and third place, respectively.

For Samartex, the victory lifts them to sixth position, strengthening their push for a top-four finish as the Ghana Premier League season enters its decisive final stretch.
