Semenyo racially abused after Man City win over Chelsea

Manchester City forward Antoine Semenyo has been subjected to racist abuse on Instagram following his side’s emphatic 3-0 victory over Chelsea FC on Sunday.
The 26-year-old delivered an impressive performance in west London as Pep Guardiola’s team capitalised on Arsenal FC’s slip-up against AFC Bournemouth, securing all three points at Stamford Bridge.
The result reduced the gap between Manchester City and league leaders Arsenal to six points, with a game in hand, setting up a crucial encounter at the Etihad Stadium this weekend. Teammate Jeremy Doku has already described the fixture as a potential title decider.

However, attention has shifted away from the on-field performance after Semenyo revealed he received a racist message in the aftermath of the victory.
Semenyo Shares Evidence of Abuse
Since his £64 million move from Bournemouth in January, Semenyo has made an immediate impact, quickly establishing himself as a key figure in Guardiola’s setup.
Alongside fellow January signing Marc Guehi—who found the net against Chelsea—the Ghana international has strengthened an attack that previously relied heavily on Erling Haaland.

Following the match, Semenyo shared a celebratory post on Instagram, which drew a racist response from a user. The forward later posted a screenshot of the offensive comment on his Instagram story on Monday, bringing wider attention to the incident.
Renewed Focus on Racism in Football
The incident once again highlights the persistent issue of racism in football, particularly on social media platforms. Similar cases have occurred in the past, including the abuse suffered by former Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling during a match at Stamford Bridge in the 2018–19 season, which led to sanctions against those responsible.
Semenyo is expected to receive strong support from his teammates at Manchester City, a squad widely recognised for its diversity and unity, as he continues to focus on upcoming fixtures, including the high-stakes clash against Arsenal.
