Ghana’s University for Development Studies (UDS) booked their place in the final of the World University Games after edging past Spain’s University of Granada in a tense semi-final encounter on Friday, September 26, 2025.

UDS delivered a disciplined and well-organised performance, keeping their Spanish opponents at bay throughout the contest.

The first half saw both sides struggle to create clear-cut chances, with neither able to establish real dominance despite flashes of attacking intent.

After the restart, UDS gradually took control, creating more opportunities and looking the likelier side to score.

However, Granada’s defence held firm, ensuring the game remained goalless at the end of regulation time.

With a place in the final on the line, the match went to penalties. Granada faltered first, missing their opening spot-kick to hand UDS an early edge.

The result secures UDS a historic spot in the final of the prestigious tournament, underlining their growing reputation on the international stage.
