Cristiano Ronaldoâs long wait for silverware at Al-Nassr continues after the Saudi Pro League giants were beaten on penalties by Al-Ahli in the 2025 Saudi Super Cup final.
The highly anticipated clash at the King Abdullah Sports City ended 2-2 in regular time, before Al-Ahli sealed a 5-3 victory in the penalty shootout, extending Ronaldoâs trophy drought with the club to more than two and a half years.
Ronaldo Scores 100th Goal for Al-Nassr
The 40-year-old Portuguese forward gave Al-Nassr the lead in the 41st minute with a coolly converted penalty, marking his 100th goal for the Saudi side since joining in 2022. The milestone also underlined his remarkable achievement of netting 100+ goals in four different countries.
However, Al-Ahli quickly responded as Franck Kessié struck an equaliser deep into first-half stoppage time.
Late Drama Before Penalties
The second half brought more drama as Marcelo BrozoviÄ restored Al-Nassrâs lead in the 82nd minute with a precise finish. But just when victory seemed within reach, Roger Ibañez levelled for Al-Ahli in the 89th minute, sending the final straight to penalties as competition rules exclude extra time.
In the shootout, Al-Nassrâs Abdullah Al-Khaibari saw his spot-kick saved by Al-Ahli goalkeeper Ădouard Mendy before Galeno converted the decisive penalty to hand Al-Ahli the trophy.
What This Means for Ronaldo
The defeat means Cristiano Ronaldo remains without a trophy at Al-Nassr, despite scoring prolifically since his arrival. The Portuguese icon has now lost three finals with the club, including the 2023â24 Kingâs Cup and the 2024 Saudi Super Cup.
While Ronaldo continues to cement personal milestonesâmost recently reaching 35 career trophies and 100 goals for Al-Nassrâhe still trails long-time rival Lionel Messi, who has lifted 46 titles in his career
