Fire Service announces reward after firefighter stabbed during Adjiringanor fire outbreak

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has announced a special reward for anyone who can help identify the individual who stabbed a firefighter and fled the scene during a firefighting operation at Adjiringanor, near Ability Square, on Friday, 14 November 2025.
A spokesperson for the GNFS said that the incident occurred as firefighters were battling a fierce blaze that engulfed a two-storey, eight-room building.

“Our teams acted swiftly and professionally to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to adjoining properties,” the spokesperson said, noting that investigations are currently under way.
The fire reportedly started at around 9:30 pm, with the first crew from the Legon Fire Station arriving on scene at 22:03 hours. Reinforcement teams from the Madina, National Headquarters and Adenta Fire Stations later joined the operation. A private water tanker was also brought in to support the effort by ensuring a steady flow of water.
The blaze was brought under control at 00:16 hours and fully extinguished by 01:08 hours.
Seven rooms and their contents on the top floor were completely destroyed. However, one room on the upper floor, all rooms on the ground floor, and nearby structures were successfully protected from the fire.

Two firefighters sustained injuries during the operation — one suffered a stab wound to the left arm, while another was struck on the shoulder by a falling block. Both were treated at Unity Clinic in Madina and subsequently discharged.
The GNFS has urged the public to prioritise fire safety, especially during the dry season when the risk of outbreaks is significantly higher.
Authorities are appealing for information that could lead to the arrest of the attacker. “We have a special reward for anyone who helps us find the person responsible,” the spokesperson confirmed.
