GAF confirms 3 civilians killed in Binduri convoy attack, 10 arrested

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has confirmed that three civilians were killed after unknown gunmen attacked a military-escorted civilian convoy in Binduri, located in the Upper East Region.
According to an official statement signed by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin of the Ghana Navy, Acting Director General of Public Relations, the incident happened on Monday, April 27, 2026.
The convoy, which was transporting approximately 140 civilians from Bawku to Bolgatanga under military protection, reportedly came under repeated heavy gunfire from armed attackers.
Three Civilians Dead, One Injured
The military disclosed that the ambush resulted in the deaths of three civilians, while one other person sustained injuries.
However, security forces swiftly responded to the attack and successfully repelled the assailants.
“In the process, the military successfully repelled the attack on the convoy, resulting in the death of seven assailants,” the statement said.
Weapons and Ammunition Recovered
Following the attack, troops launched a pursuit operation and recovered several weapons and rounds of ammunition from one suspect who allegedly attempted to hide inside a mosque.
The recovered items included:
One G3 automatic rifle
Two fully loaded magazines containing 20 rounds each
An additional 176 rounds of ammunition

10 Suspects Arrested
The Ghana Armed Forces further confirmed that ten additional suspects have been arrested and are currently assisting with ongoing investigations into the Binduri attack.
Military Urges Public Cooperation
GAF urged residents and the general public to cooperate fully with security personnel during operations, warning against interference that could endanger lives or obstruct ongoing missions.
The military also expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured person a speedy recovery.
Rising Security Concerns in Bawku Area
The latest violence adds to growing security concerns in the Bawku enclave and surrounding communities, where recurring tensions have led to multiple clashes and civilian displacement in recent years.
Authorities say operations will continue to restore calm and protect civilians moving through affected areas.
