GES releases 2026/2027 academic calendar - Full details

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially released the academic calendar for Senior High Schools (SHSs) and Senior High Technical Schools (SHTSs) for the 2026/2027 academic year.
In a statement issued on June 1, 2026, GES announced that the calendar applies to both single-track and transitional schools, providing a comprehensive guide for school administrators, teachers, students, parents, and guardians as they prepare for the upcoming academic year.
According to the approved schedule, Form One and Form Two students in Single Track schools are expected to report to school on September 18, 2026. The first semester will run until January 29, 2027, after which students will proceed on vacation.
The second semester is scheduled to begin on March 30, 2027, and conclude on July 30, 2027.

For Form Three students, the first semester will run from September 18 to December 18, 2026. The second semester will commence on February 1, 2027, and end on June 18, 2027, ahead of their completion of the academic year.
GES also outlined separate arrangements for transitional schools, including schedules for face-to-face learning, online instruction, breaks, and vacation periods for all year groups.
As part of the academic calendar, the Christmas break has been scheduled from December 19, 2026, to January 4, 2027, while the Easter break will be observed from March 25 to March 30, 2027.
Additionally, Form Two students in transitional schools will enjoy a mid-semester break from June 17 to June 20, 2027.

The service further confirmed that the 2027 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) is expected to take place between April 6 and June 18, 2027.
GES has urged all stakeholders, particularly school heads, teachers, parents, and students, to take note of the approved calendar and make the necessary preparations to ensure a smooth and successful academic year.
