The Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, has assured that midfielder Kwasi Sibo remains in the long-term plans of the Black Stars and could be handed a call-up in the near future.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday evening, shortly after the release of Ghana’s squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Mali, Asante Twum disclosed that the technical team, led by head coach Otto Addo, has been closely following Sibo’s progress and is impressed with his recent performances.

“Kwasi Sibo will get his chance soon,” he said.
“The technical team has been monitoring him and is impressed with his work rate. Although they opted to maintain the core team following recent performances against Chad and Madagascar, Sibo is on their radar and will likely get an opportunity soon.”

The Real Oviedo midfielder has been in fine form at club level but was not included in Ghana’s recent World Cup qualifiers. He will also not feature when the Black Stars face Chad and Mali on September 4 and 8 respectively.

Meanwhile, Asante Twum also gave an update on winger Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, who is making his way back from a lengthy injury setback that included an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) problem.

According to him, the technical team is being careful with Issahaku’s return despite his recent comeback at Leicester City.

“Otto Addo and his team are pleased to see him back in action,” said Asante Twum.
“However, given the circumstances surrounding his long layoff, they are cautious about rushing his return. The medical teams from Ghana and Leicester City have had extensive discussions about the player and have decided to give him time.”

He further explained that one of the reasons for the cautious approach is the condition of the pitch for Ghana’s next international fixture in Chad.

“One reason for this cautious approach is that the upcoming match’s AstroTurf pitch in N’jamena may not be suitable for Issahaku’s return following his recent ACL injury,” Asante Twum added.

Ghana continues its quest to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and both Sibo and Issahaku are expected to play key roles in the campaign once they are fully integrated into Otto Addo’s plans.
