The Government of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has issued a strong public warning to Ghanaians, particularly those seeking to travel abroad, against the use of falsified immigration stamps and fraudulent travel endorsements in passports.

In an official statement released in Accra, the ministry cautioned citizens to avoid engaging so-called travel agents or intermediaries who offer to manipulate passports by inserting fake entry and exit stamps to fabricate travel history.

According to the Ministry, several recent cases have emerged involving Ghanaian nationals abroad who were arrested and detained by foreign authorities after forged immigration stamps were discovered in their passports.

Authorities stressed that falsifying travel documents is a serious criminal offence, both under Ghanaian law and international legal frameworks. Offenders risk severe consequences, including arrest, prosecution, imprisonment, hefty fines, deportation, and long-term travel bans that could permanently affect future mobility.

The Ministry further warned individuals posing as travel consultants that such illegal activities expose both themselves and their clients to significant legal risks.

Key Directives to the Public

To safeguard themselves, the ministry urged citizens to adhere strictly to the following guidelines:

  • Process all visas and travel documents through officially recognised and accredited institutions.

  • Conduct thorough background checks to verify the legitimacy of any travel agent or intermediary.

  • Understand that passport holders are fully responsible for the authenticity and integrity of their travel documents at all times.

Additionally, Ghanaians living abroad have been advised to comply strictly with the immigration laws of their host countries and seek assistance from Ghana’s diplomatic missions when necessary.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the welfare of Ghanaian citizens globally, adding that it will continue to collaborate with diplomatic missions and international authorities to clamp down on document fraud and related offences.
