The Ghana Police Service has issued a stern warning to final-year senior high school students across the country as they prepare to complete the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), cautioning them against engaging in violence, vandalism, or any form of unlawful conduct.

The advisory comes ahead of the conclusion of the examinations on Friday, June 19, 2026, and follows recent incidents of student unrest in the Upper East Region that resulted in multiple arrests.

According to the Police Service, two students from Zebilla Senior High Technical School were arrested for allegedly setting fire to a teacher's apartment, while four students from Bawku Senior High School were apprehended for their alleged involvement in rioting, assaulting school authorities, and damaging school and private property.

In a statement issued on Thursday, June 18, the police urged students to celebrate responsibly after their examinations and to remain law-abiding at all times.

The Service emphasised that criminal acts such as assault, vandalism, arson, rioting, and the destruction of property carry serious legal consequences and could have a lasting impact on the future prospects of those involved.

"The police will not hesitate to arrest and prosecute any student found engaging in such conduct," the statement warned.

The police further called on students, parents, guardians, and school authorities to work together in promoting discipline, peace, and public order both within school environments and in surrounding communities.

Authorities believe that responsible behaviour during and after the examination period will help ensure a safe and peaceful end to the academic year for all candidates across the country.
