GTEC lists 100 unrecognised universities in August 2026

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has published a list of 100 unrecognised universities and tertiary institutions as of August 28, 2026, citing concerns over their recognition and quality assurance status.

The Commission also advised members of the public to exercise due diligence regarding certificates and qualifications issued by the listed institutions.

GTEC urges the public to verify institutions.
The latest notice highlights the importance of verifying the recognition status of tertiary institutions before enrolling in academic programmes.
Students and parents are particularly encouraged to confirm whether an institution and its programmes have the necessary recognition or accreditation before making payments or pursuing qualifications.
Prospective students should also be cautious about institutions that advertise degrees, diplomas or other academic qualifications without clear evidence of recognition by the relevant regulatory authorities.
