Paris Saint-Germain beat Tottenham Hotspur 4–3 on penalties to win their first-ever UEFA Super Cup Paris Saint-Germain clinched their maiden UEFA Super Cup title on Wednesday night, edging Tottenham Hotspur 4–3 in a dramatic penalty shootout after a thrilling late comeback in Udine, Italy.

The match—the traditional curtain-raiser between the previous season’s Champions League and Europa League winners—came just a month after PSG’s Club World Cup final appearance.

Luis Enrique fielded a near full-strength squad from the side that demolished Inter in May to claim their first European crown. One notable omission, however, was goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who had surprisingly parted ways with the club.

For Thomas Frank, this was his first official game as Spurs manager after arriving from Brentford over the summer, and for much of the night, it looked like the perfect start. While PSG dominated possession, Tottenham were more incisive, taking a 2–0 lead deep into the second half.

Debutant João Palhinha nearly opened the scoring just before the break, forcing new PSG keeper Lucas Chevalier to tip his clever effort onto the bar.

Micky van de Ven reacted fastest to slot home the rebound. Moments later, Cristian Romero — Spurs’ newly appointed captain — doubled the lead, his header slipping through Chevalier’s gloves.

PSG, however, refused to surrender. With five minutes remaining, substitute Lee Kang-in ignited hope by driving a low shot into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

The equaliser came deep into stoppage time, as Ousmane Dembélé’s dangerous ball across the face of goal was met by Gonçalo Ramos, who dived in bravely to head home.

The shootout was tense. Vitinha’s early miss for PSG seemed costly, but Chevalier’s save from Van de Ven levelled the contest.

Mathys Tel’s miss for Spurs handed the advantage back to the Parisians, with Lee converting confidently.

Pedro Porro kept Tottenham in the hunt, but Nuno Mendes stepped up and coolly buried the decisive kick, sparking wild PSG celebrations.

This victory not only secures PSG’s first-ever Super Cup but also reinforces their growing reputation as Europe’s dominant force — a team capable of winning even when the odds are stacked against them.
