WAEC Releases 2026 BECE Results; Full breakdown of cancelled and withheld results

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the provisional results for candidates who sat the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for school candidates across Ghana.

According to the examination body, the results will be forwarded to participating schools through the respective Metropolitan, Municipal and District Directors of Education. Candidates can also access their results online via WAEC's official results portal.

John Kapi, Head of Public Affairs at WAEC, confirmed the release in a statement, urging candidates to use only the Council's official platform to check their results.

2026 BECE Candidate Statistics

A total of 620,243 candidates from 20,789 schools registered for the 2026 BECE. The figure comprises 304,415 males and 315,828 females.

WAEC noted that the examination was inclusive, with special arrangements made for:

• 136 candidates with visual impairments

• 282 candidates with hearing impairments

• 510 candidates requiring other special accommodations

The examination was conducted at 2,237 centres nationwide, while 3,601 registered candidates were absent.

WAEC Cancels Results of Candidates Over Examination Malpractice

WAEC announced that after investigating reported examination irregularities, the 37th Meeting of the Final Awards and Examiners' Appointment Committee, held on July 21, 2026, approved sanctions against candidates found culpable of malpractice.

The Council disclosed that:

• 496 candidates had their subject results cancelled.

• 105 candidates had their entire results cancelled.

• 119 candidates had their subject results withheld.

• 48 candidates had their entire results withheld.

In addition, the subject results of 2,722 candidates from 229 schools have been withheld pending further investigations.

WAEC stated that the ongoing investigations will determine whether those results will be released or cancelled, with final decisions expected by August 31, 2026.

How to Check Withheld or Cancelled BECE Results

Candidates whose results have been cancelled or withheld have been advised to visit WAEC's irregularities portal and select the "withheld/cancelled" option on the homepage.

The portal provides details explaining the reasons for the sanctions. Candidates with withheld results will also receive guidance on the next steps in the investigation process.

School heads and proprietors can similarly access the status of affected candidates using their institutional result listing credentials.

WAEC Warns Against Results Upgrade Scams

WAEC has cautioned candidates, parents and the general public against fraudsters who claim they can alter or upgrade examination results in exchange for money.

The Council stressed that its examination results are securely protected and can be independently authenticated, making any promises of result upgrades fraudulent.

WAEC expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service (GES), security agencies, heads of schools, supervisors, invigilators, examiners and other stakeholders whose support contributed to the successful conduct of the 2026 BECE and the timely release of the results.
