Mexico defeated the Black Stars of Ghana 2-0 in a pre-World Cup friendly, with El Tricolor controlling much of the contest and punishing Ghana with goals in both halves.

The Black Stars made a nightmare start, conceding just two minutes into the match after a goalkeeping error gifted Mexico an early lead. Brian Gutiérrez then added to Ghana’s misery with a superb curling effort to put the Mexicans in control.

Mexico continued to press for a second goal, but Ghana goalkeeper Benjamin Asare responded with a brilliant save to keep the scoreline manageable. Ghana’s first real chance came in the 15th minute when Joseph Afena-Gyan found space, but his effort went narrowly wide into the side netting.

As the first half progressed, Mexico dominated possession and dictated the tempo, leaving the Black Stars chasing the ball and struggling to build meaningful attacks. Ghana found it difficult to string passes together or hold on to possession for long periods.

Mexico thought they had doubled their advantage in the 39th minute after a powerful header beat Asare, but the effort was ruled out by the referee. Even so, El Tricolor remained firmly in control heading into halftime.

After the break, Ghana improved slightly and created a few openings. Majeed Ashimeru managed to break into the box but failed to convert, while Afena-Gyan forced another save from the Mexico goalkeeper. Ghana also came close with a shot that rattled the crossbar.

Mexico, however, restored their dominance and eventually scored their second goal through Guillermo Martínez, who finished calmly after a strong attacking move and beat Asare to seal the result.

Despite a more determined second-half display and several changes from the Black Stars, Ghana could not find a way back into the game. Mexico stayed compact at the back, showing composure and discipline to protect their clean sheet.

The match ended 2-0 in favor of Mexico, leaving the Black Stars with work to do ahead of their next pre-World Cup friendly against Wales before the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
