Ibrahim Mahama promises special cash reward for Black Stars ahead of Croatia clash

Ghanaian businessman and philanthropist Ibrahim Mahama has pledged a special cash reward for the Black Stars following their impressive performances at the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup, as the team prepares for a crucial Group L encounter against Croatia national football team.
Mahama made the announcement during a visit to Ghana's training camp in Rhode Island on Thursday, June 25, where he met with players and members of the technical team ahead of Saturday's decisive group-stage fixture.
Addressing the squad, he commended the players for their commitment, discipline, and determination throughout the tournament, revealing that their performances had inspired him to offer additional financial support.

"I have a much better bonus for you than the taxpayers because they have to go to Parliament. I don't have to go to Parliament. Please do us proud, and you will be rewarded," Mahama told the team.
His promise comes at a time when optimism is growing among Ghanaian supporters, with the Black Stars producing strong displays at the World Cup. Ghana remains one of the African teams yet to concede a goal in the competition, earning praise for its defensive solidity, tactical discipline, and attacking efficiency.
Mahama also lauded head coach Carlos Queiroz for the impact he has made since taking charge of the team shortly before the tournament.

"With the coach, I am very, very proud because you came in at a shorter time. You have been able to put the boys together in your wonderful performance."
The pledge adds to the growing support from corporate organisations and private individuals rallying behind Ghana's World Cup campaign. Earlier this year, Mahama reaffirmed his commitment to the national team when his company, Engineers & Planners, contributed $5 million during a national fundraising drive to support the Black Stars' preparations for the World Cup.
Financial incentives have often served as a source of motivation for players, and Mahama's latest gesture is expected to further boost morale as Ghana aims to secure qualification for the knockout stages with a positive result against Croatia.
