Mbappe hat-trick fires Real Madrid to victory over Sociedad

Kylian Mbappé produced a sensational performance, scoring a hat-trick as Real Madrid cruised to a 4-1 victory over Real Sociedad at the Santiago Bernabéu.

The French forward’s treble helped Madrid make it a memorable return to the Bernabéu for José Mourinho, while extending their dominance over Sociedad to seven consecutive LaLiga victories in the head-to-head fixture.

Mourinho had guided Real Madrid to victory over Espanyol on the opening weekend and kept faith with the same starting XI, with Mbappé and Vinícius Júnior leading the attack.

Mbappé breaks the deadlock

Real Madrid threatened early, with Mbappé and Vinícius combining to create several opportunities.

In the seventh minute, Vinícius slipped a clever pass through to Mbappé, but Real Sociedad goalkeeper Álex Remiro made an excellent save to deny the France international from a difficult angle.

The roles were reversed moments later when Mbappé found Vinícius, only for Remiro to again come to Sociedad’s rescue.

Real Sociedad grew into the contest as the first half progressed, with Sergio Gómez coming close to opening the scoring after his first-time volley narrowly missed the far post.

However, Madrid eventually found the breakthrough in the 40th minute.

Federico Valverde played Mbappé into space, and the forward made no mistake, unleashing a powerful left-footed strike beyond Remiro to give the hosts the lead.

Sociedad responded almost immediately.

Just four minutes later, Job Ochieng’s effort took a deflection and fell kindly for Luka Sučić, who calmly finished to restore parity before the interval.

Mbappé completes his hat-trick.

Mbappé had an early opportunity to put Madrid back in front after Arda Güler sent him through on goal, but his effort went straight at Remiro.

The France captain would not be denied for long, however.

After combining brilliantly with Jude Bellingham, Mbappé found himself in space inside the area before firing a right-footed effort past the Sociedad goalkeeper to restore Madrid’s advantage.

Bellingham then played a key role in the hosts’ third goal.

The England midfielder showed strength and determination to hold off Luken Beitia before creating the opportunity for Vinícius, who tapped the ball into an unguarded net.

With Madrid firmly in control, Mbappé completed his hat-trick in spectacular fashion.

Vinícius produced an outstanding pass, allowing Mbappé to lift a delicate lob over the advancing Remiro and seal a convincing victory for the home side.

Brahim Díaz thought he had added a fifth, but his effort was ruled out for offside.

Real Madrid move to the top of LaLiga.

The victory sends Real Madrid to the top of the LaLiga table and extends their winning run in the competition to five matches, dating back to the end of last season.

Madrid have now won seven consecutive LaLiga meetings with Real Sociedad, further underlining their dominance in the fixture.

For Sociedad, the result extends a difficult run of form. They remain without a victory in their last nine matches and have lost their opening two games of the new campaign, leaving them at the bottom of the table.

For Mbappé, meanwhile, the hat-trick provides another early statement of intent as he continues his bid to dominate the Spanish top flight.
