Neymar has been named in Brazil’s 26-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with head coach Carlo Ancelotti confirming the veteran forward’s place in the final team while leaving out Chelsea striker João Pedro.

The announcement, made on Monday, ended weeks of speculation over Neymar’s inclusion as Brazilian fans awaited Ancelotti’s final selection for the tournament.

The 34-year-old remains Brazil’s all-time leading scorer with 79 goals and is preparing for his fourth World Cup appearance after previously featuring in the 2014, 2018 and 2022 editions.

Neymar has enjoyed an impressive World Cup record, scoring eight goals and providing three assists in 13 matches. Among Brazilian players, only Ronaldo, Pelé and Jairzinho have been directly involved in more World Cup goals.

The Santos forward also joins Lionel Messi and Luka Modrić as one of only three players to score and assist at each of the last three World Cups.

Brazil continue to hold their historic status as the only nation to appear at every World Cup since the tournament began in 1930. The five-time champions will make their 23rd appearance and still boast the best win rate in World Cup history, with 76 victories in 114 matches.

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson has also been included despite not featuring for his club since March because of injury concerns.

Teenage striker Endrick earned a place in the squad as well, while Joao Pedro was one of the notable omissions despite enjoying a strong Premier League campaign.

Only Erling Haaland, Bruno Fernandes and Igor Thiago have registered more direct goal contributions in the Premier League this season than João Pedro, who recorded 20 goal involvements — level with Antoine Semenyo.
