Apple unveils iOS 27 with AI-powered Siri, faster performance and major iPhone upgrades

Apple has officially introduced iOS 27, describing it as one of the most significant iPhone software updates in recent years. The new operating system is powered by Apple Intelligence and introduces a completely redesigned Siri AI, offering more natural conversations, smarter assistance and the ability to perform tasks across multiple apps.
In addition to its AI-powered assistant, iOS 27 delivers stronger privacy and child safety protections, a refreshed Liquid Glass interface, faster performance and dozens of upgrades across core apps, including Messages, Safari, Photos, Maps, Health and Home.
Apple says iOS 27 will be released this autumn, while the new Siri AI experience will begin rolling out in English later this year.
iOS 27 release date
Apple announced iOS 27 during its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2026 keynote on June 8, 2026, and released the first developer beta on the same day.
Developer beta updates followed every two weeks, with the second arriving on June 22 and the third on July 6. The first public beta became available on July 13, allowing iPhone users to test the software ahead of its official launch.
Although Apple has not confirmed an exact release date, industry reports suggest the release candidate will arrive in early September, with the final version expected to launch around September 14, 2026, alongside the anticipated iPhone 18 lineup.
Siri AI is the biggest upgrade in iOS history.
The standout feature of iOS 27 is the all-new Siri AI, which Apple says is its biggest redesign of Siri since the voice assistant debuted.
Powered by Apple Intelligence, Siri AI understands natural conversations, remembers personal context and can complete tasks across multiple apps without requiring users to repeat commands.
Users can simply ask Siri to do the following:
Find old emails or messages.
Locate specific photos or documents.
Edit recently sent messages.
Retrieve saved notes.
Brainstorm ideas or draft documents.
Answer questions using online information.
Apple says Siri AI also adapts to each user's writing style, making interactions feel more personal and conversational.
The Siri app works across Apple devices.
Apple is also introducing a dedicated Siri app, allowing conversations to sync seamlessly across Apple devices.
For example, users can begin a conversation on an iPhone and continue it later on an iPad without losing context.
Siri AI also integrates with Visual Intelligence, enabling users to point their iPhone camera at objects, landmarks or text and receive instant answers or complete actions based on what they see.
Users will even be able to personalise Siri's voice by adjusting its pitch, tone, speed and accent.
Initially, Siri AI will launch as a beta in English before expanding to additional languages.

Apple Intelligence expands across iOS 27.
Apple Intelligence is now deeply integrated throughout the operating system.
The Photos app introduces Spatial Reframing, allowing users to reposition images after they've been captured. New AI editing tools can also extend image backgrounds and remove larger unwanted objects.
Image Playground now generates more realistic AI-created images from simple text prompts.
In Messages and Mail, contextual suggestions can recommend creating calendar events, locating shared files or responding to conversations more efficiently.
A new call context feature can automatically retrieve useful information—such as booking confirmations or reservation numbers—while users are on phone calls.
Safari, Passwords and Shortcuts receive major upgrades.
Safari has been redesigned with several intelligent features, including automatic tab organisation and Notify Me, which alerts users whenever monitored web pages change—for example, when prices drop or products return to stock.
Apple has also strengthened security by improving the Passwords app, which can now detect weak passwords and automatically help users replace compromised credentials.
Meanwhile, the Shortcuts app allows users to create automations simply by describing what they want in everyday language.
iOS 27 introduces stronger child safety tools.
Apple has expanded parental controls with several new family-focused features.
Parents can now choose which system apps children can access during device setup and approve website visits using a new Ask to Browse feature.
Communication Safety has also been enhanced to detect not only nudity but also violent or graphic content shared through Messages and FaceTime.
Additional parental controls include:
Category-based app time limits.
Improved screen time scheduling.
A redesigned dashboard for managing children's devices.
Easier permission controls through Ask to Buy.
Faster performance and a refreshed design
iOS 27 also delivers significant performance improvements alongside visual enhancements.
Apple's redesigned Liquid Glass interface features sharper icons, improved readability, higher contrast and adjustable transparency settings.
According to Apple's internal testing:
App launches are up to 30% faster on iPhone 11 Pro Max.
Photos load up to 70% faster on iPhone 15.
AirDrop transfers are up to 80% faster on iPhone 16 Plus.
