Why Teacher Kwadwo was sacked by GES revealed

Former spokesperson for Ghana’s Ministry of Education, Kwesi Kwarteng, has revealed that popular Ghanaian teacher and content creator Teacher Kwadwo was dismissed by the Ghana Education Service over prolonged absenteeism, not political reasons, as many previously believed.
Speaking on TV3 Ghana’s NewDay programme on Wednesday, April 22, Kwarteng addressed public discussions surrounding discipline, transfers, suspensions, and dismissals within Ghana’s public education sector.
Teacher Kwadwo Was Sacked for Absenteeism – Kwesi Kwarteng
According to Kwarteng, Teacher Kwadwo’s termination was based on his failure to report to duty for an extended period, rather than criticism of the former Nana Akufo-Addo administration.
“There is a guy called Teacher Kwadwo, and when he was sacked… for about a year he had not been at post. No institution anywhere in the world will normalise that,” he said.

His comments challenge the long-standing speculation that the teacher’s dismissal was politically motivated.
GES Teachers Subject to Discipline and Professional Standards
Kwarteng stressed that all public sector workers, including teachers and headteachers, are required to follow professional rules and can face disciplinary action when necessary.
“We create an impression as though when you come into government or public service, somehow you become immune to disciplinary measures,” he stated.
He noted that institutions such as the Ghana Education Service must enforce standards to maintain accountability and efficiency.
Concerns Over Indiscipline in Ghana’s Education Sector
Beyond the Teacher Kwadwo case, Kwarteng also expressed concern about what he described as rising indiscipline within parts of Ghana’s education system.

He criticised instances where school authorities bypass official communication structures and involve political groups to address internal challenges.
“If a headmaster believed that there was no food in the school, there are channels of communication… You don’t go and invite a political party to come and talk to students. Would that solve the problem?” he questioned.
Who Is Teacher Kwadwo?
Teacher Kwadwo became widely known in Ghana for his humorous and engaging educational videos on social media, where he creatively highlighted classroom life and issues affecting teachers.
His sudden absence from the public spotlight in recent years sparked widespread debate, with many Ghanaians questioning why he was removed from the classroom.
