Apostle Dr Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, the renowned man of God, technological innovator, philanthropist, agriculturalist, and industrialist, has passed away peacefully at the age of 77.

Widely celebrated as “Kantanka, the African Star”, his death marks the end of an era for Ghana and the African continent.

In a statement issued by the Safo family and the Kristo Asafo Church, Apostle Safo’s passing on Thursday, September 11, 2025, was confirmed with the biblical verse Romans 14:8:“For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord.”

The statement, signed by his daughter Sarah Adwoa Safo, former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, described him as “a gallant son whose legacy and persona were shaped by his life struggles, dreams, and unwavering commitment to excellence.”

“With profound sorrow and deepest grief, the Safo family and the Kristo Asafo Church announce the peaceful passing of Ghana’s beloved man of God, the greatest technological icon, philanthropist, agriculturalist, and industrialist popularly referred to as ‘Kantanka, the African Star’,” the family said.

The tribute further hailed Apostle Safo as “a true genius, a beacon of hope for many, and a father to the fatherless.”

Throughout his life, Apostle Safo distinguished himself as more than a preacher. He was a pioneer of indigenous innovation through the establishment of Kantanka Automobile Company, a visionary leader who empowered Ghanaian youth through education and technical training, and a philanthropist who dedicated his resources to uplifting the vulnerable.

The family’s statement added:

“His unique persona was shaped by his life struggles, dreams, resilience, courage, determination and dedication to his calling and conviction. Ghana has indeed lost a gallant son and a true legend.”

The family has appealed to the public to respect their privacy during this period of mourning. Details of his funeral and burial arrangements will be announced in the coming days.
