Iran says school strike in Minab killed over 100 amid air attacks

At least 148 people have reportedly died after a strike hit a girls’ school in southern Iran, according to Iranian authorities. The incident occurred in Minab, near a base of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, which has previously been identified as a potential target.
Iran has publicly blamed the United States and Israel, although the U.S. Central Command (Centcom) said it is investigating reports of the strike, and Israel’s military stated it is “not aware” of any operations in the area.
According to the Iranian Red Crescent, at least 201 people have been killed and 747 injured in airstrikes across Iran since Saturday.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian condemned the attack as a “barbaric act” and “another black page in the record of countless crimes committed by the aggressors.”
A Centcom spokesperson, Tim Hawkins, said, "We take these reports seriously. The protection of civilians is of utmost importance, and we will continue to take all precautions available to minimise the risk of unintended harm.”
The Red Cross and Red Crescent in Geneva confirmed that emergency response teams have been mobilised to the school site. Officials reported that the school suffered three missile strikes, located roughly 600 metres (1,970 feet) from the IRGC base.

Video footage verified by the BBC shows smoke rising from the building and panicked crowds outside, though the outlet could not independently confirm the death toll due to restrictions on international media access in Iran.
Social media reactions have been intense, with many Iranians expressing outrage. Some questioned the regime’s responsibility, citing a lack of shelters, disrupted communications, and insufficient warning for students. One commenter wrote, "Even if the regime did not directly target schools, the deaths of children remain the responsibility of the Islamic Republic.”
The school strike occurred amid a wave of U.S. and Israeli air attacks across multiple Iranian cities over Saturday and Sunday, including strikes that reportedly killed Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several senior commanders, further escalating tensions in the region.
